Hedspin & Illo Mix - Truth Radio Show

So if you're not living in the GTA, and never log on to Flo 93.5 live to air saturday nights, you may not know about Team Canada's "The Truth" radioshow. You may also not know that The Eh! Team has joined forces to make it the best live to air in the country (i dont get out much so i don't know the authenticity of said statement). This week Hedspin & I joined forces to do the show. I handled the slower, hippy-hoppy stuff, while Hedspin killed the more dancey stuff. Expect to be able to download a new mix every sunday on here!

Bee Bee Oh Why

Remember when all of the djs played records? I remember playing at bboy jams back in the day and I would always save this track until the final rounds of the competition knowing that the bboys would get amped as soon as I dropped it. The first time I ever heard this track was on a bboy video and I called every person who might know what song it was and held the phone to the tv hoping that they would be able to recognize it. After several attempts it was my man Momo who told me that it sounded like a 70's prog rock band called CAN. Still not knowing who it really was the only words I could make out in the song were "Hey You!" and "Vitamin C". So I took this lead and went to a used record / cd store called Otis and asked if he's ever heard of a song called Vitamin C by a band called Can. The owner's eyes lit up and he said that he loved the band and had just burned a compilation of his favourite Can songs onto a CD. He gave me the CD and told me that the cover of the Can record I'm looking for has a picture of a big can on it and that it's pretty hard to come by. I left the store with the Cd in my hand, not knowing how valuble it would be to me in the future. One year later I went to go look at some records at my man Birdapres'. He had the record, I bought it off him, and now I still have to track down another original copy.

To this day I only have one copy of this record making it impossible for me to ever loop the break. The record was also a really bad pressing so in order to hear it I had to crank the gain, the treble, and the bass to the max in order to make it somewhat better sounding. Now with the digital revolution I took a good quality mp3 version found on the cd that was given to me and added an 8 bar extended intro for smooth mixing and juggling purposes.

Filipino Funk

So I just recently got married on a remote island in the Philippines. I also managed to play some gigs out in Manila and do some digging out there with my man Shortkut who happened to be booked out there at the same time. This was quite the experience as we were goin to these little pawn shop looking places that were based out of peoples houses. It was 40 degrees celcius (Eh!) while we were going through all these records and I remember some of the owners of these places breaking out their electric fans and trying to accomodate us as we were rummaging through all of their shit. They were all probably laughing at us because we were drenched in sweat and our fingers had turned black from all the dust. I've decided to post a couple of items that I found out there. The first song is off a series of RCA Compilations based in the Philippines called Blackbuster released in the mid to late 70's. What these compilations consist of are mainly covers of disco jams played out by a Filipino funk band. I don't know exactly how many comps there are in this series but I managed to find 6 of them.

Blackbuster - Shack Up

Allow Me To Introduce Myself...

So maybe some introductions are needed around here. Being that we're all from different parts of the globe, this could be a good way to get acquainted. My name's Illo and i make remixes, mashups, hiphop beats, and anything else that will keep me busy when im at home smoking weed.

Being that this is The Eh! Team, i figured i would post 2 remixes i did involving fellow Canadians.

Roz Bell vs Dj Illo - Yesterday Man

Awwww Shiiieeeeet

So the way this came about,,, is myself, Grandtheft, and Hedspin were all sitting around, and I was saying how "I generally hate blogs, don't have the patience to navigate through them, and think they are overall kinda gay." Heds and Grandtheft were shocked. They were like "yoooo where do you get all your music from?" My response was a shrug of the shoulders. Buuuut,, then I got the thinking. Maybe I'm missing out on some key music by not being on these blogs. So my fellow Eh Team counterparts started showing me everything from soul/funk blogs, to new wave and Rmx blogs. Who knew??? Lol. So within about 5 mins my tune completely changed from "I hate blogs" to "this blogging shit is genius,, and maybe we should do one." From anti-blogger to blogmaster,,, probably a day I will never live down. A dark day indeed.
