Dj P-Sol came with some new heat in an incredibly clean fashion, and im actually really happy with how my set turned out. Probably my best recorded HipHop mix i've ever done. Def a great listen. Dj Illo - Live In The Bassment

Many people probably dont know, but when i was younger i used to learn everything about pop/youth culture from my older brother James aka Dj Jamez. When he bought a guitar, i bought a bass. When he bought a pullover jacket, i bought one too! Etc, Etc, Etc... So after we bought tuntables in 1994 i would also get advice on what records to buy. We would then go downstairs in my parents basement, smoke weed, and mix records for hours every single night. We'd also record mixtapes for our friends, with no pre-planning or discussion, just press record and go...

As technology has advanced and my own responsibilities have increased, this old practice has disappeared from my everyday life, and with it a piece of my upbringing has as well. So i've decided to pay an homage to my roots as a dj and start putting out more "Live Bassment Mixes" over the next few months. It's something ive been meaning to do for a while but havent gotten around to doing it...until now.

This mix represents a sound from 90's House Music that sounds as good as today as it ever did back then. With all the pitch-bending, wobbly lfo's, and car alarm House tracks coming out these days, it really makes this sound standout. Infectious vocals, beautiful rhodes, and piano stabs are the theme. Not all these songs are from that exact era, but they all embody the sound.

So this mix (live on 2 turntables, no effects, no re-dos) is dedicated to the man who got me started djing in the first place - my older brother James.

Although this is credited to being written by David Z, Clare Fischer & The Family, we all know damn well it was Prince who created this little gem. Sanctified Lady {DJ Pump Re-Edit}

Marvin's Sancitified Lady was originally "Sanctified Pussy" or "Sanctified Bitch" that was featured on Dream of A Lifetime album which was released after his death in 1984. A great tune, I love the synthesized groove, its too damn funky and i like how he mumbles during certain parts. You can actually hear him curse ~ "Some girls F*ck, Some dont care" .. Also if you listen carefully you can still hear the "p" word slips out a few times, but the song insists that he wants no part of a promiscuous woman, but a good church girl who won't give him herpes...amen.

"She said I'm saving mine for Jesus!" .. RIP Marvin.

Being that the show is based in T-Dot (FLOW 93.5) i figured i would basically sumarize RAP music on the streets of Toronto in the last few months... The Hi-5 Party (July 31 / 2010)

Saturday July 31st is the kick-off party for **HI-5** - A new monthly party with an emhasis on collaboration and many of Vancouver's most talented and beloved DJ's + special guest DJ Illo (Eh! Team DJs/ Ottawa)

Vancouver has a lot of talent and rad people...and we're here to celebrate it!

The madness starts gets going from 11pm (til' late) and takes place in Gastown's own W2 Storyeum space (Cheaper Show, Music Waste Afterparty, etc).

A portion of proceeds will go towards Community Media Arts Vancouver. http://www.creativetechnology.org/

Cheapo $10 Cover, Cheap Drinks and TWO separate rooms with 10 DJ's and visuals throughout the course of the night to keep you dancing into the early hours.

Well after waiting some time im proud to say that a new remix i made saw its official release yesterday! The big homey Dj Eleven (The Rub, NYC) asked me to remix his new single "Every Freakin" for his own 11 Inch Records Imprint. Me and my music writing partner Dj Kaem turned in a Futuristic Funk number complete with talk-box and live bass. The release also features great mixes from Dj Ayres, Mike The 2600 King, and of course Dj Eleven featuring our Freshest Kids homey Kutcorners.

DJ SCRATCH SHOWCASE DURING EPMD SHOW AT FORTUNE SOUND (05/25/2010)

When it comes to being the backbone of hip hop, Dj Scratch is one of the best and here is the vid footage to prove it. EPMD put on an amazing show that night but as a dj I was just as excited to see DJ Scratch cutting up the samples live on all of their songs the exact same way they were done as the studio recordings. If you haven't checked out Scratchvision yet, this is one of the only websites where you can see true legendary djs such as Kenny Dope, Primo, and Just Blaze on a weekly basis just to name a few.

What's crackalackin'!

So it's finally arrived, the follow up to The Frenzy! I'm really excited that i get to finally share this with everyone, it feels like this mix has been through hell and back... I started it almost a year ago and would work on it periodically for a few months here and there. When it was finally getting close to done, I found myself unhappy with a few chunks and went into more editing. By the time i finished editing and was happy with it, it for some reason would not render off my computer. It was just stuck there and i couldn't find the corrupt files within this mayhem of waves for the life of me. I let it sit for another few months until i realized how much room it was actually taking up on my studio computer. So i said, thats it, I either render or it, or delete it. With that, I gave it some patience/TLC and within a few days, BOOYA! I FINALLY got it!

A Nice and Smooth show in 2010 is supposed to be a disaster. It should be a
meager crowd of like 16 awkward 30 something male rap dorks and a lackluster
performance by 2 fat old men who are out to grab a quick buck as a Golden
Era throwback memory.

Instead it was raging house party with your two favorite charismatic black
Uncles. They danced sang and rapped non stop and spent most of the night
doing so off stage and in the crowd. It was a god damn house party gong show
dance festival as opposed to a concert and it was mad fun. Basically If
cocaine ever got depressed it would sniff Nice and Smooth to feel good. And
the tribute to their friend Guru was so heartfelt and genuine (plus they
also called Solar out as basically being responsible for Guru's death).

Random things that should be bad but weren't because of the party atmosphere
they created:
- They did a total of like 4 songs all night and 2 of those they songs did
twice - but it was still incredible
- like any good drunk uncle they hugged girls for awkwardly long amounts of
time (and Greg Nice was sweating more than Patrick Ewing).
- Smooth B did a whole verse over Bob James Nautilus (this is 2010)
- they did a retarded amount of call and response but it felt legit
- the crowd got to do a Hip Hop Karaokee version of Audio 2 "Top Billing"
over a Greg Nice beatbox cept Smooth B kept coming in with the wrong vocals
at the wrong time
- they did accapella versions of their songs (they probably only have like 2
of their own instrumentals)
- Greg Nice called out all Asians in general (and specifically Needle
Kineval) for being shy and then invited them all on stage
-they dragged Rob Rizk and Craig Frontline on stage just to thank them for
throwing the show.
- it was a fucking Nice And Smooth show in 2010

SUMMARY: Legendary awesome energetic show that was really fucking fun to be
at and I'm really hungover today plus I lost my voice.
